WITH HAZING DEATHS
Devil must be proud,
Servando says
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Bacoleño Aurelio Cesar “Taboy”  Jalbuena Servando,   yesterday said it has been 16 months since his son, Guillo Servando was killed, and more have died from hazing.

“One every 4 months. Of the four, 3 were killed in Tau Gamma Phi hazings. The devil must be so proud,” he said.

He said the three others killed in hazing rites were Ariel Enopre of Quezon, Christian de la Cruz of Bulacan and the most recent one in Zamboanga.

His son Guillo, 18, a De La Salle-College of St. Benilde sophomore, died after undergoing Tau Gamma Phi fraternity initiation rites in Makati City on June 28, 2014.

This is the worst spate of hazing deaths in history, he said, “despite the pronouncements of Tau Gamma Phi founders and leaders, and other fraternities as well, that they will now stop this practice.”

All those cries to "Stop Hazing" or "No to Hazing" have had no profound effect, he said.

“Let us call a spade a spade, and now cry out loud that hazing is evil", he said.

All God-fearing people should adopt this slogan and help spread it, Servando said.

A special appeal goes to all fraternity alumni to go back to their brothers and apologize and admit that the practice they started is abhorrent, he added.

To those who care little about this evil, Servando pointed out that Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "the greater tragedy is not the oppression or cruelty of the bad, but the silence over that by the good."

“Parents have always known that losing a child is painful. They are wrong. It is so much worse. Please don't wait for it to happen to someone close to you. Do something”, Servando urged.*CPG
