Heritage conservation
Councilor Solo Locsin, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Tourism, Arts and Culture of Silay City, and a member of the Philippine Heritage Conservation Society, hosted a welcome dinner for the HCS Board of Trustees and special guests at the Sen. Jose C. Locsin ancestral house in the city recently.
The HCS is holding its 2015 summit in Silay, and brings together a wide spectrum of participants representing national and local government units, historical, cultural and heritage organizations, the academe, heritage conservation practitioners, allied professionals, architects, planners and real estate developers, the tourism industry, and the media.
The HCS delegation was led by its chairperson, Gemma Cruz-Araneta, and president Ivan Henares. Heritage stakeholders, including National Commission for Culture and the Arts chairman, Felipe de Leon Jr., came in full force. Local heritage advocates and ancestral house owners, together with Silay Mayor Jose and first lady Marissa Montelibano, and Vice Governor Eugenio Lacson were present to welcome the guests.
Guests were treated to a special tour of Silay, and rondalla music entertained them during cocktails at the garden when they arrived. Mayor Oti, in his welcome address, reminded everybody that heritage doesn't just mean Silay's ancestral homes but also the lives of the great men and women who built them and the families they had raised.
He welcomed everybody to be part of the family.*
