A surprise random drug test was conducted Wednesday on personnel of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office at Camp Francisco Fernandez in Agan-an, Sibulan, involving 110 anti-drug and intelligence operatives all over the province.
The test was ordered by the PNP Camp Crame, for police personnel assigned in the campaign against illegal drugs, including intelligence operatives.
Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group chief, Senior Insp. Ryan Jay Orapa, said the 110 personnel submitted their urine samples to the provincial police crime laboratory, and the results will be known within the week.
Orapa said PNP wants to be sure that personnel tasked to run after pushers, street sellers, and distributors of illegal drugs are themselves not involved in the nefarious activity, or are using drugs.
Those tested were told to report to the provincial command for a conference on the status of the anti-drugs campaign in their areas of responsibility, and they were, in fact, in civilian uniform and are unaware of the drug test.
If found positive for drug use, a confirmatory test will follow, after which, appropriate charges will be filed against erring policemen, Orapa said.*JG
