DTI: Price tags required

As more shoppers visit malls and supermarkets this holiday season, the Department of Trade and Industry is again notifying business establishments that all consumer products sold in retail to the public must bear an appropriate price tag, label or marking indicating their prices, a DTI press release said yesterday.

DTI also reminds business establishments that non-compliance with the Price Tag Law is liable to legal consequences as inscribed in Republic Act 7394 ( Consumer Act of the Philippines) , it said.

A proper price tag must be clearly written; state the price of the commodity per unit (piece, kilogram, meter, liter, etc.) in Philippine currency, except when a law or regulation allows consumer products to be sold in foreign currency, such as in the case of duty free shops; and must bear no erasures or alterations of any sort except in price reduction sales promotion campaigns, it said.
