City honors outstanding citizens

Elizabeth Salabas was the recipient of this year's Banwahanon award, while five Bacolod businessmen received the Buklod Awards for their outstanding contribution to Bacolod City, during the 77 th Charter Day program at the SMX Convention Center in Bacolod last night.

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puenrtevella led city officials in honoring the awardees.

Salabas, president of VMA Global College and national head of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxilliary, received the Banwahanon award for her outstanding contribution to maritime education and maritime protection.

She expressed her gratitude to Puentevella and the city officials for  extending to her such an honor, which she attributed to  the rigid nurturing of  her mother,  and the support of her siblings and children.  

The Buklod Awardees were hoteliers Roseller Ciocon of L'Fisher Hotel; Jose Vicente “JV” Tanpinco, general manager of Planta Hotel and Business Inn; William Ong, chief executive officer and mall owner of 888 Chinatown Square and 888 Chinatown Square Premier and president and chief executive officer of Bacolod Capitol Hill Land Development Corporation;

Alfredo Barcelona who was instrumental in launching the first BacoLaodiat Festival in Bacolod; and Adelina “Nana” Yulo, convenor of the Negrense for Noy and Mar Movement, and former professor of the University of St. La Salle.*CGS
