834 bets in Neg.Occ., 15% female

There are 834 candidates running for elective posts in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City next year, of which 133 are female or 15.95 percent, Commission on Elections provincial office data showed yesterday.

There is one candidate for governor and two for vice governor, all of whom are male.

Of the 18 candidates for Congress, only two are female – Rep. Mercedes Alvarez of the 6 th district and La Carlota Mayor Juliet Marie Ferrer – 4 th district.

Of the 18 bets for provincial board seats, only one is female – Helen Zafra of the 6th district.

Comelec data also shows that of the 80 candidates for mayor, 67 are male and 13 are female, while of the 63 candidates for vice mayor, 51 are male and 12 are female.

There are 652 bets running for councilor, of which 547 are male and 105 were female, Comelec data also showed.*CPG
