Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. reiterated yesterday that the United Negros Alliance is willing to support a bid by Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson of Love Negros for congressman of the first district of Negros Occidental, saying he would be a sure winner.

He also said that, as of now, UNA, which he chairs, is not fielding opponents against Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) and Rep. Mercedes Alvarez (Neg. Occ., 6 th District) of Love Negros.

But he said everything is very fluid and many changes could happen before the filing of certificates of candidacy on October 12 to 16 for the 2016 polls.moremoremore

Cops seize
P380,000 in ‘shabu'

The police recovered an estimated 55 grams of suspected shabu, with a street value of P380,000, during a buy-bust operation in Brgy. Nabali-an, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, yesterday.

Supt. Antonietto Canete, Himamaylan City police chief, who led the anti-drug operation, identified the arrested suspects as Joey Beltran, 31, and his live-in partner, Liza Ortiaga, 29, of Brgy. Nabalian.

Beltran, who was temporarily residing in Brgy. Nabali-an, Himamaylan City, ranked number three in the drug watch list of the Kabankalan City Police Station, Canete said.

for ‘heroes of Tañon Strait'

Oceana Philippines is calling on the public to nominate individuals who have contributed to protecting Tañon Strait, between the islands of Negros and Cebu.

The nominees will vie for the first “Ocean Heroes Award”, Oceana said Monday in a media release as the country celebrated National Heroes' Day.
