Mar meeting in Negros
BY CARLA GOMEZ
Liberal Party presidential aspirant Mar Roxas met with Negros Occidental officials and supporters yesterday morning, but the LP provincial head Rep. Alfredo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd district), did not show up further fueling speculation that he may not support his party's standard bearer in 2016.
Benitez, Liberal Party Negros Occidental chairman, is the fourth richest member of the House of Representatives and has considerable political clout in Negros and in Congress.
In a media interview at the Talisay Public
Market, Roxas briefly answered questions on the Negros Island Region, but when asked to comment on Benitez, he ended the interview abruptly and continued shaking hands with people at the market.
Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas yesterday assured that Congress is allocating funds in the 2016 national budget to make the Negros Island Region and its regional offices operational.
In an interview in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, yesterday, Roxas said funds will be allocated for every national agency set to put up regional offices in the NIR, also known as Region 18.
Roxas said he expects the NIR Regional Development Council to convene next year. .

Guv urges opponents to set
aside politics for peace
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW
Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo has called on his political opponents and other civil officials to set aside politics and work together for the good of the province in order to achieve peace in all aspects.
He sounded the call as the provincial government led the opening salvo of the National Peace Consciousness Month celebration this September, during a simple flag-raising ceremony Monday at the Ninoy Aquino Freedom Park fronting the Capitol in Dumaguete City.
The activity, attended by provincial government elected officials, department heads and employees, some national government agencies, the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army, and civil society organizations, was also highlighted by the signing of commitment on the “peace wall”, and the releasing of white balloons..
