Palace outlines El Niño
action plan for agriculture

MANILA -- Dispelling public fears on an impending severe drought, Malacañang Saturday said the Department of Agriculture (DA) has a comprehensive El Nino response plan in case the weather disturbance affects the country.

Communication Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said the DA's El Niño action plan has two features: production support and water management.

The plan also includes an information and communication program or information education program, Coloma said.

Port zone hearing tomorrow

A committee hearing will be conducted by the Committee on Laws of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City tomorrow on the request of the Philippine Ports Authority for a port zone delineation of the Banago Port, Bacolod Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya said.

The PPA in Negros Occidental shelved the proposed 2.4 hectare reclamation in Banago, Bacolod City, intended to be used as Banago Port's operations cargo back-up area, in view of the opposition of the residents occupying the 2-hectare area in the property.

PPA port manager Enrique Fuentebaja wrote Gasataya earlier to follow up their request for an endorsement of the port zone delineation of the Banago Port which was submitted to the SP last year.

P8M set for livestock

The Provincial Veterinary Office has allotted P8 million to mitigate the effects of El Niño on the livestock industry in Negros Occidental.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said the budget will cover feeds, mineral blocks and vitamin electrolyte water soluble.

Pasture grasses propagation and distribution, and layers and pig dispersal are also included, he said.
