About 1,100 delegates from the different Department of Education Divisions in Districts I and 2 of Negros Occidental recently converged at the Balay Kauswagan in Sagay City to show full support to the launching of K-12 with the theme, “K-12 Kayang-kaya, Sama-sama” .
Keynote speaker DepEd Region VI Director, Gemma Ledesma, said K to 12 is the biggest educational transformation in the country, a press release from Sagay City said.
“Employment is one of our biggest concerns after graduation and K to 12 will successfully match students with the job and the company if they opt to work after senior high school”, Ledesma said.
“Everyone is needed, most especially the teachers, in this major change,” she said.
Marsette Sabbaluca, Sagay City DepEd Schools Division superintendent, presented the implementation of K to 12 in behalf of the other partner divisions.
She said the objectives of the gathering was to “enhance awareness of the senior high school course offerings and present initiatives of the divisions towards the implementation of K-12.”
“Despite the challenges of implementing K-12, it needs to be implemented because it is a law. It is possible that with all the stakeholders' collective efforts, we can make it happen,” she added.
Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon, III said “education should be our greatest priority and we should all join hands to make K to 12 happen.”
Calatrava Mayor Araceli Somosa strongly expressed support to K-12 by donating 1 hectare for the construction of senior high school building so her constituents, especially those of the upland barangays, will not be deprived of quality education.
Toboso Mayor Richard Jaojoco said that the reality is “We are still getting ready for the implementation of K-12 but we have no choice but to implement it in 9 months”. He also donated land for K-12 and expressed 100 percent support to it.
Cadiz Mayor Patrick Escalante said they will try their best to implement it next year while making the proper preparations now. He said he gives his full support to education because “Our country will gain from it by providing our future nation builders the skills and knowledge they can use for life”.
Manapla Mayor Lourdes Escalante said she is giving her 101 percent support to K-12 and will try her very best to make the program a success in Manapla.
Escalante City Vice Mayor Santiago Maravillas said “K-12 will give our students a sure path to lead because our teachers conducted student interest inventory. He strongly commits to support K-12 although it is difficult but with hard work and sacrifices, “we will be able to achieve our goals to provide our children quality education,” Maravillas said.*
