The Philippine National Police seized eight firearms and suspected shabu from four suspects arrested in Tallisay, Sagay and Escalante cities, and Salvador Benedicto town in Negros Occidental during the weekend.
An entrapment operation conducted by Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) operatives on Sunday led to the recovery of three .45 caliber Colt and Springfield Armory pistols in Brgy. Cabatangan, Talisay City.
The recovery of the three firearms also led to the arrest of a certain Abelardo Arca, 47, of Brgy. Alangilan, Bacolod City, who is allegedly engaged in gun-running activities, Inspector Raymundo Franco, NOPPO public information office chief, said.
Another joint operation of the Sagay City Police Station and NOPPO Public Safety Company also yielded a .38 caliber revolver with seven live ammunition, eight ammunition for a .45 caliber pistol, 357 magnum revolver and a 12 gauge shotgun, and a gun holster.
Franco said the homemade revolver and assorted ammunition were recovered during a raid on the residence of Ernesto Escandelor Jr. in Sitio Mahawan, Brgy. Vito, Sagay City, that was conducted by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Reginald Fuentebella.
The raid also yielded a sachet of suspected shabu, two transparent plastic sachets containing traces of shabu and its paraphernalia, including 17 disposable lighters, Franco added.
The raid was led by Supt. Mario Baquiran, commander of the NOPPO Public Safety Company.
A operation was also conducted by the NOPPO Public Safety Company 1st Platoon led by Police Inspector Eric Doronilla on Saturday in Salvador Benedicto town.
The police swooped down on the house of Eleuterio Mentiza at Spur 21 in Brgy. Bunga by virtue of a search warrant also issued by Judge Fuentebella.
The raid yielded two homemade shotguns with magazines containing four ammunition, two homemade .38 caliber revolvers with five ammunition, as well as different gun accessories, the Salvador Benedicto police reported.
A buy-bust operation in Brgy. Balintawak, Escalante City, also led to the arrest of a certain Gregorio Villalon, 37, who ranked number six in the drug watchlist of the city police station, Supt. Leo Batiles said yesterday.
Batiles said the arrest of Villalon also yielded a big sachet and two other small sachets of suspected shabu, as well as P300 in marked money.*GPB
