Officials of B arangay Poblacion 3 in Dumaguete City exercised the taxing power of the local council and increased the fees for the issuance of the barangay clearance from the old rates fixed more than 10 years ago.
Barangay Captain Anthony Ozoa said the rates were approved during a public hearing Saturday at the barangay hall, attended by businessmen and other stakeholders.
Under Barangay Ordinance No. 1, series of 2015, the rate for the issuance of the barangay clearance for market stalls, including sari-sari stores and other small peddlers at the city public market area, was placed at P100, while for commercial establishments, the rate is P300 per issuance.
Barangay clearance for industrial establishments is higher at P500. These include commercial, rural and thrift banks, financing and lending establishments, pawnshops, money shops, insurance companies, stock brokers and dealers of securities and foreign exchange, department stores and supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, bars and other entertainment establishments, and gasoline stations.
Ozoa said the income derived from the imposition of fees will offset the expenses for bond paper, ink, electricity and other administrative requirements of the barangay.
