Dumaguete barangay
hikes clearance fees
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Officials of B arangay Poblacion 3 in Dumaguete City exercised the taxing power of the local council and increased the fees for the issuance of the barangay clearance from the old rates fixed more than 10 years ago.

Barangay Captain Anthony Ozoa said the rates were approved during a public hearing Saturday at the barangay hall, attended by businessmen and other stakeholders.

Under Barangay Ordinance No. 1, series of 2015, the rate for the issuance of the barangay clearance for market stalls, including sari-sari stores and other small peddlers at the city public market area, was placed at P100, while for commercial establishments, the rate is P300 per issuance.

The ceremonial groundbreaking for the two-storey, 10-classroom building that will house grades 4 and 5 pupils of Saint Louis School-Don Bosco Dumaguete was held Tuesday, in time for the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a press release from organizers said.

The project is to celebrate the bicentenary birth of St. John Bosco, who has a very strong devotion to the Blessed Mother. Construction on the bi-centennial site began late July, the press release also said.

It is now in the columnar stage, with heavy reinforcing bars and scaffoldings scattered around the former soccer field, and construction is expected to last about eight months, architect Ned Carlos, construction manager of the project, said.
