Capitol honors veterans

The Negros Occidental provincial government marked the 70 th Commemorative Celebration of the Negros Island World War II Veterans at the Capitol Lagoon, yesterday.

With the theme “For Our Victory, for the liberation and freedom… Our Veterans, We owe them,” this year's commemoration started with the annual wreath-laying at the monument of the World War II Veterans led by 303 rd IB Commanding Officer Col. Francisco Delfin, OIC Provincial Administrator Leonardo Eusebio and Provincial Consultant Nestor Bayona, with the NOHS CAT Ceremonial Troop and Brass Band, a press release from the Capitol said.

It was followed by a 21-gun salute from the 303rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army.

Gift packs, courtesy of the provincial government, were also distributed to the veterans at the Negros Occidental Multi-purpose Activity Center, the press release said.

Present at the event were Msgr. Guillermo Gaston, NOPPO Officer-in-charge Senior Supt. Samuel Nacion, Provincial Coordinator of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines-Negros Occidental Chapter Levy Juele, among others.

The yearly event is a tribute to the gallantry and patriotism of Negrense veterans who liberated the island from the Japanese Imperial Army in World War II.*
