More than P500,000 worth of suspected shabu was recovered by the police in two successive anti-drug operations yesterday in Himamaylan City and Isabela, Negros Occidental, that also led to the arrest of 13 suspects, Police Supt. Antonietto Canete said yesterday.
Canete, who is the Himamaylan City police chief and head of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group in the 5th and 6th districts, said their buy-bust operation and subsequent follow-ups at Purok 6, Brgy. Aguisan, Himamaylan City, led to the arrest of 12 suspects, for violation of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Drug Act of 2002.
It also yielded an estimated 75 grams of suspected shabu with a street market value of P450,000, assorted shabu paraphernalia and a .38 caliber revolver with ammunition, he added.
Similar anti-drug operations of the PAIDSOTG operatives headed by Canete at Atkinson Street in Brgy. 4 poblacion in Isabela town, also yielded about 16 grams of shabu with a market value of P90,000, and the arrest of a suspect, Canete also said.
The identities of the 13 arrested suspects had not been established last night, as policemen were still making an inventory of the confiscated items.
The series of anti-drug operations by the PAIDSOTG in Kabankalan City, Isabela, and Himamaylan City have already resulted in the confiscation of more than P4 million worth of shabu, after the campaign against those behind in the proliferation and peddling of prohibited drugs, was maximized by the police several months ago.
The Himamaylan City Police Station has topped the anti-drug campaign of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office among its 31 city and municipal police stations, in terms of the volume of drugs confiscated.*GPB
