Hinobaan gets
P2.5M tractor aid
BY KARLA PANGANIBAN

A tractor costing about P2.5 million with complete implements for use in production and promotion of corn and cassava was provided to Hinoba-an farmers during a two-day hands-on training attended by more than 30 farmer leaders in the town.

The farmers were from Hinoba-an and Sipalay City, Provincial Coodinator, Armando Abaño of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, said yesterday.

This is part of Agri-Pinoy Corn-on Farm Mechanization Program of the Department of Agriculture being implemented by OPA and LGUs through their agricultural offices for the corn-cassava cluster program areas, while DA- Region 6 is the funding agency for such training, he said.

Mayor Ernesto Estrao said that the activity was conducted to develop the corn and cassava industry, considering that Hinoba-an has potential development areas for it.

Hands-on activities, which included the test run and inspection of the tractor, were led by the Municipal Corn and Cassava Coordinator Alvin Dela Fuente, while cassava planting activities and the two nodes propagation techniques were headed by Alexander Lecciones, the OPA cassava focal person.

The farmers were also briefed on the impending El Niño phenomenon, he added.*KDP
