The Negros Occidental provincial government has garnered the Seal of Good Local Governance for 2015 that includes a Performance Challenge Fund award, Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. announced yesterday.
The award has enabled the provincial government to avail of a P7 million grant for which it will put up a P3 million counterpart for projects to boost the rice and bamboo industries of Negros Occidental.
Former Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas said in a letter to Marañon that the provincial government met the core components of the seal, which are good financial housekeeping, social protection and disaster preparedness.
The provincial government also met two of the three essential components of the seal which are business–friendliness and competitiveness, and environmental management, Roxas said.
The seal entitles the provincial government to access the Performance Challenge Fund for 2015, he added.
The Performance Challenge Fund given to Negros Occidental will be used for additional structures for the rice processing complex and a bamboo nursery of the provincial government in Bago City, Ma. Lina Sanogal, Provincial Planning and Development Officer, said.
A bamboo village showroom will also be built by the provincial government at the Panaad Park in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, she added.*CPG
