Sandigan suspends
Monico for 90 days
Mayor to file motion for reconsideration
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
The Sandiganbayan Fourth Division has ordered the preventive suspension of Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella for 90 days effective immediately.
The graft case against Puentevella and his co-accused, stemmed from the alleged overpriced purchase of computers and their software packages at P400,000 each, totaling P26 million from 2001 to 2006, funded from his Priority Development Assistance Fund, or pork barrel fund, while he was congressman of Bacolod City.
The resolution suspending Puentevella promulgated September 28, a copy of which was furnished the DAILY STAR by Bacolod Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez yesterday, was penned by Associate Justice Jose Hernandez and concurred in by Associate Justices Alex Quiroz and Oscar Herrera Jr.
Rep. Alejandro Mirasol (Neg. Occ., 5 th District) of the United Negros Alliance yesterday named his candidates for the fifth district of Negros Occidental, and it looks like a reconciliation with his former ally, Binalbagan Mayor Emmanuel Aranda, is not likely to take place.
Mirasol said his wife, Mary Ann Mirasol, is running for mayor of Binalbagan, while Aranda yesterday said he is seeking re-election.
When asked if there was a chance of reconciliation between him and Aranda, Mirasol said there were no talks on the matter.

road, infra prioritization
BY RENE GENOVE
The Provincial Development Council and the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry began the selection for the shortlist of proposed Strategic Roads and Infrastructure Investment (SRII) projects.
The press release said both parties met with consultants from The Asia Foundation (TAF) at a Coordinating Road and Infrastructure Investments for Development (CR + ID) prioritization workshop recently wherein they discussed which among the proposed SRII shall be prioritized for funding starting 2017 up to 2019.
The group adopted a prioritization scheme where projects will be grouped according to congressional district and then will be categorized under five sectors of economic growth namely tourism, coconut, high value crops, fisheries and livestock and poultry.
