IN BAYAWAN A lawyer was shot dead in broad daylight yesterday morning after attending a court hearing in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental. Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos, officer in charge of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said Ramon Elesteria, was on his way to his car when he was shot at close range twice in the chest, and in the head while he was already on the ground, by a lone gunman who fled after the shooting. He said Elesteria, who retired as head of the Public Attorney's Office, was in Bayawan City yesterday as counsel for an accused in a drug case hearing. He was seen conversing with another lawyer on his way out of the Regional Trial Court Branch 63, presided over by Judge Ananson Jayme, and was shot before reaching his car. |
