4 ex-rebels get cash,
livelihood assistance

Four former members of the New People's Army in Negros Oriental received cash assistance of P65,000 each from the government, through the Comprehensive Livelihood Integrated Program.

The rebel returnees, two females and two males, whose identities are withheld for security reasons, received their individual checks during a simple ceremony Monday at the governor's office at the Capitol in Dumaguete City.

Governor Roel Degamo led the awarding of the checks, with Army officials led by Lt. Col. Harold Pascua, commander of the 79th Infantry Battalion and Lt. Col. John Oliver Gabun, executive officer of the 302nd Infantry Brigade, Provincial Social Welfare Officer Alice Legarde and Department of Interior and Local Government provincial head Dennis Quiñones.

BM Teves, Sojor vying for
congressman in 3rd district

It will be a fight between the incumbent president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in Negros Oriental, Board Member Arnie Teves, and former president of the Negros Oriental State University, Henry Sojor, for congressman of the third congressional district of the province.

Sojor was officially endorsed by Gov. Roel Degamo as the candidate of Partido NegOrense in the 3 rd District, along with mayoralty candidate Ching Alabastro and vice mayoralty bet, Councilor Inday Tizon. Vying for board members are Toto Diao, former Valencia mayor Enrique Gonzales and incumbent Zamboanguita Mayor Kit Mark Adanza.

Sojor accepted the challenge, especially with the backing of former congressman Herminio Teves, who had earlier signified his intention to make a comeback against his grandchild, Rep. Pryde Henry Teves, but due to old age, has decided to look for his replacement.
