Transport group criticizes
‘steep’ oil price increases

Oil companies were hit by members of Sentrong Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators-Negros yesterday for increasing oil prices that they claim are over and above their rollback price last month.

Its secretary general, Jesse Ortega, said premium gasoline increased its price by P1.80 per liter while diesel oil increased by P1.50, that he said, is unjustifiable because there was no movement in the prices of oil in the world market.

Ortega said, they are not yet planning to hold a protest on the continuous increase of oil prices, but will be vigilant in monitoring the changes.

He also said that SSTONE directors and members agreed in a meeting Monday, that if the price of premium gasoline exceeds P60 and diesel P50, they will hold a protest.

Ortega also challenged the oil companies to be reasonable in their price increases and not to depend on speculations about the crises in the world market.*LTG
