Fifty troopers of the 6th Regional Public Safety Battalion took over the Mambusao Police Station in Capiz, when the entire town police force was relieved, Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, 6th RPSB director, said yesterday.
Two of the six companies of the 6th RPSB, with headquarters in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, are stationed in Panay island.
The relief of the whole Mambusao Police Station came after the assassination of town Vice Mayor Abel Martinez on May 4.
In a statement, Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr., regional police director, said he was dissatisfied with the way the Mambusao police handled the investigation on Martinez’s killing.
“They (Mambusao police) were not doing good. It seemed they were not cooperating,” Querol said. “We want to give justice to Martinez.”
The 27 relieved Mambusao policemen, including town police chief Senior Inspector Samuel Vipinosa, are expected to be distributed to various provincial police offices in the region.
Two of the 27 relieved policemen were linked to the suspected mastermind in the vice mayor’s death, police investigations show.
Martinez, 79, was shot dead outside his residence on Rizal Street, Barangay Poblacion, Mambusao, Capiz.
Meanwhile, 431 neophyte policemen and women and 13 Police Inspectors were deployed by the PRO6 to various police stations in Western Visayas, to undergo a six-month field training exercise to improve their field performance level.*GPB
