SP take up plans
for CCTV purchase

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The proposed purchase of closed circuit television equipment will be taken up Tuesday by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Communication and Energy chaired by Councilor Archie Baribar and co-chaired by Councilor Sonya Verdeflor as requested by broadcaster Romy Niere.

Niere had claimed that he had nothing to do with the CCTV transaction and pointed to Leo Netinganan, the mayor’s secretary and his friend Eduard Latina, who sells CCTV as the ones involved in the transactions.

Niere claimed that Bentinganan went to him with the letter proposal on the CCTV since he was hesitant to approach the mayor directly.

Earlier, Bentinganan had said that it was Niere who wanted the project, and not him.

Baribar has scheduled another hearing on Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Earlier, Bacolod Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson had said that although their purchase of CCTV equipment has been recommended for government offices, Bacolod does not have a budget yet for the item that will cost about P2 million.

Baribar said his Committee will make a recommendation on the matter of how to purchase the CCTV so that when the city buys the instrument, there will be no question as to the matter of transparency, pricing and the matter of its necessity.

They will submit the report to the Sangguniang Panlungsod, he added.*CGS
