Relieved COP denies
link to illegal drugs
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Supt. Crisaleo Tolentino, who was relieved as chief of the Dumaguete City Police Office last week, yesterday denied accusations that he is involved in the illegal drugs trade in Dumaguete with a government official, a lawyer and a businessman.

Tolentino made the statement after copies of an unsigned “white paper” were posted at the Quezon Park and in barangay Tinago, Dumaguete, starting Monday.

He said the accusation is an effort to besmirch his reputation and his long years of police service.

‘Rest well, Jesse'

NAGA - President Benigno Aquino led a state funeral yesterday for one of the country's most respected politicians, who died in a light-plane crash.

Thousands of people lined the streets as Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo's funeral cortege made its way from a Catholic basilica to a nearby crematorium in his home town of Naga in the far east of the Philippines.

In his eulogy, Aquino paid tribute to Robredo as a leader who got things done while rising above the corruption that infests Philippine politics.

PROV'L TREASURER SAYS
Globe agrees to pay tax
BY ROMY AMARADO

The Negros Oriental Provincial Treasurer's Office will meet treasurers of towns and cities where Globe Telecom Inc. has taxable facilities, Friday, to determine the company's tax obligations from 2008, Provincial Treasurer Danilo Mendez said yesterday.

This was after Sol Grandioso David, head of the company's Government Regulatory Compliance Department, in a letter dated August 28, 2012, requested the provincial government to bill the company, Mendez told the DAILY STAR.

He said the company assured that it will pay its real property taxes from 2008.
