The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region VI has earmarked P5,292,000 for the social pension of 3,528 senior citizens in Negros Occidental for July to September, May Castillo, DSWD head for social marketing, said yesterday.
Castillo said local governments can now claim the social pensions for their identified indigent senior citizens aged 70 to 77 years old.
The DSWD social pension aims to improve the living conditions of beneficiaries, help them meet their medical needs, daily consumption, reduce hunger incidence, and protect them from deprivation, abuse, and neglect, she said.
Public urged to report
violations of Milk Code
MANILA – The Food and Drugs Administration is urging the consuming public to report violations of the Milk Code of 1986 by companies.
This is the reason the FDA will scale up its campaign against milk companies violating the country's existing law on milk by coming up with a website where the public can report violations. FDA chief for Legal, Information and Compliance Division Emil Polig said there is still widespread violation of the law.
This, despite the revision of the rules of regulations of the Code and the improvement of the regulatory functions of the Inter-agency Committee overseeing the implementation of the Code, Polig said.
DOT budget okayed
MANILA – The Department of Tourism yesterday hurdled panel deliberations at the House of Representatives for its proposed P2.6 billion budget for 2013.
The amount nears an almost two-fold (91 percent) increase from the P1.36 billion DOT appropriations for 2012.
DOT Sec. Ramon Jimenez Jr. said the huge increase in the department’s budget is needed to jumpstart the development of highly competitive but environmentally and socially responsible tourism that promotes inclusive growth through the National Tourism Development Plan.
