Christmas Village
in Silay to open

The Silay Christmas Village will open at the city public plaza covered court 7 p.m. tomorrow on the theme “Celebrating Christmas around the World”, a press release from the city said.

To be featured in the village are Christmas arches from the Philippines, Spain, India, United States, Russia, Brazil, France, China, Thailand, Japan, Israel, Netherlands, Great Britain, Italy, Egypt and Mexico.

Christmas angels will wear the costumes of Trinidad and Tobago, Indonesia, Kenya, Turkey, Switzerland, Venezuela, Mongolia, Iceland, Australia, Netherlands, Israel, India, Italy, Great Britain, Mexico, Spain, Brazil Russia, USA, Egypt, Philippines, France, China, Thailand and Japan, the press release also said.

Highlighting the merrymaking is the giant Christmas Tree of the World and the Nativity Scene; while the entertainment lagoon, cultural arena, fashion gallery, the San Diego Pro-Cathedral, and food patio will also be opened.

Tomorrow is also the Employees’ Night, and the switch-on rites for the giant tree will be led by Mayor Jose Montelibano, Vice Mayor Mark Golez, Sangguniang Panlungsod members and the Liga ng mga Barangay.

Fr. Dimitri Gatia, parish priest of the Paroquia de San Diego, said the San Diego Parish Church and the Parish Council, in coordination with various church organizations, will have simultaneous switch-on rites.

From 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, the ‘Market-Market’ will feature hometown delicacies, seafood, lutong-bahay, farm products, fruit section, and Christmas items.

Presentations include songs, dances, tableau, skits, musical scoring, song interpretation, fashion show and assorted veladas showing the customs, costume and lifestyle of the different countries, the press release also said.

Other features of the Christmas Village for 30 days are the Pamaskua sang SP, DepEd Night, Christmas carol competition, acoustic band contest, Hugyaw Silay, Kabataang Silay performing artists and Silay scholars, roadshow presentation of the DMLMHS Special Program in the Arts, Christmas sing ala-diva, and concert, among others.

The Silay City Tourism prepared bookings with the Association of Tour Guides of Negros Occidental, Association of Tourism Officers of Negros Occidental and the universities offering tourism-related courses for group tours, the press release said.

Parish holds exhibit

The Immaculate Conception Parish Bakyas in Bacolod City will exhibit the paintings of participants in the recent six-weekend workshop, 6 p.m. tonight, at the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Feast Day cocktail party, a press release from the parish said.

The workshop, supported by the Basic Ecclesial Communities of the Parish, was participated in by 53 parish youths and was aimed to enhance the talent and skills of the youth. The paintings featured themes on family, environment, Christmas and Christian communities, the press release also said.*
