Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong (Neg. Or., 1st District) yesterday appealed for more food, water, clothing and tents for residents affected by Monday’s earthquake in Negros Oriental.

“We are in a state of national calamity and in deep need of your help,” Limkaichong said in a press release.

“Your contribution – monetary or in kind – will surely help ease out the pain, suffering and burden our fellow Filipinos are going through right now,” she stressed.

The solon said that 45 residents have been confirmed dead, 70 still missing, at least 80 were injured, thousands in pain of their loved ones’ death and in trauma of the unexpected magnitude 6.9 quake that severely hit the province, and over a billion pesos worth of damage to infrastructure.

“The picture of my district – which used to be vibrant – is now dim and gloomy; our people in great desperation for everyone’s help,” Limkaichong said, as she also appealed to government agencies, non-government organizations, private companies and individuals to help provide basic necessities; rehabilitate the people’s state of mind and lives; and rehabilitate damaged roads, bridges and other infrastructure to speed up the process of rehabilitation of the people’s lives and help them return to usual business of developing the area.

Meanwhile, earthquake victims can call their loved ones for free at the Globe “Libreng Tawag” stations located in Jimalalud Poblacion Central School, Negros Oriental State University and the municipal plaza of Guihungan City, a Globe press release said.

The company provided the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Guilhulngan with prepaid mobile phone load as well as broadband tattoo sticks for internet use.

It also conducted relief operations yesterday in Sitio, Nagkalhim, Claubhinhan, Sito Cadre and Sito Bucana, all isolated and unserved areas of around 500 families. The company also distributed water, rice and canned goods, sourced from Robinsons Bacolod and brought to Guilhungan in coordination with the Simbahang Lingkod Bayan, the press release added.*
