Land Transportation Office deputized agents no longer have authority to enforce certain traffic laws after the expiration of their deputation orders on December 31.
Janine Flores Lawas, chief of the LTO-Bais District Office in Bais City, Negros Oriental, said deputized agents first have to undergo a refresher course before the renewal of their orders.
Without the orders, they can not apprehend vehicles or road users, and also can not issue Temporary Operator’s Permits, the citation tickets issued by deputized agents to violators of the Traffic Code.
Lawas, however, said she has requested with the LTO regional office in Cebu for a deputation seminar and refresher course in her area late this month or early February.
She said the LTO has to review the list of deputized agents in the past year as some may have been transferred to other positions or for other reasons.
LTO deputized agents include those coming from the Philippine National Police, the Traffic Management Office of a local government unit, or private individuals.
She said she hopes that the PNP and Local Government Units in her area of coverage will submit at the earliest time possible the list of new recommendations for deputation, as well as those whose deputation, are up for renewal.*JFP
