IN KABANKALAN CITY
‘P2M armed robbery,
death of teacher solved’

The P2-million armed robbery and murder cases in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, were declared “solved” by the police, with the filing of charges against two arrested suspects.

Robbery with homicide suspect Bonifacio Galagate Jr., who was arrested in Brgy. 4, Kabankalan City last week, was tagged as the gunman in the fatal shooting of Celso Cari-an, bodyguard of Cheryl Begota, an employee of sugar trader Herminia Ledesma.

Police said Galagate was apprehended while hiding in the house of former Army soldier Violante Fernandez, that was raided Friday.

Supt. Calixto Mabugat, Kabankalan police chief, said yesterday that Galagate was positively identified by witnesses, in the killing of Cari-an, and the theft of P2-million, in a police lineup at the headquarters.

Galagate is also facing additional charges for illegal possession of firearms and Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002, Mabugat said.

Fernandez, meanwhile, was charged before the Kabankalan City Prosecutor’s Office for violation of RA 9165, and illegal possession of ammunition.

This was after the police seized a .45 caliber pistol, live ammunition, and several sachets of suspected shabu during his arrest, police records show.

The other respondent in the robbery with homicide cases, identified as Richard Gonzales, is still at large, police said.

Mabugat said he also considered as “case closed and solved” the killing of Lucas Saban, 49, a school teacher; and the shooting of his son, Leodicmar, 14, in Brgy. Bantayan, Kabankalan City, March 10, with the immediate arrest of the gunman.

The suspect, identified as Fernando Dagohoy, 20, of Murcia, was also charged with robbery with homicide and frustrated homicide cases, before the Kabankalan City Prosecutor’s Office.

SPO1 Samuel Villafuerte, Kabankalan police investigator, said Dagohoy was positively identified by witnesses to the shooting of Saban, a teacher of the Bantayan National High School, and his son.

Investigations conducted by the police showed that Dagohoy, who was looking for money at the residence of the victim and was armed with a .45 caliber pistol, shot dead Saban.

Five empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol were recovered by the police at the crime scene, and this led to the arrest of Dagohoy, the police said.*GPB
