for Ms. Tay Tung

The Bacolod Tay Tung High School Batch 1987 will hold the Search for Ms. Tay Tung Global at the PoHang Gymnasium on September 29, a press release from the school said.

The event, that will be conducted by the school for the third time since its inception in 1935, will highlight its 2012 alumni homecoming celebration.

The search is a personality, beauty, intellect, and leadership competition for the school alumni and students, who will serve as ambassador of BTTHS Alumni Association Inc. in promoting its activities, advocacies, values and history, the press release said.

It is open to single or married female alumnus or student, who will represent a team composed of various batches with the last digit indicative of the team, like Team 1 for batches 1951, 1961, 1971, 1981, 1991, 2001 and 2011, the press release also said.

The talent night, the pre-pageant event to be open to the public, will be on September 25 at the BTTHS Pohang Gymnasium, and feature celebrity hosts and performances; while the coronation night will be on September 29 and will serve as the highlight of the alumni homecoming dinner, the press release said.

WVSU tops LET passers

The West Visayas State University extension campus in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, announced in its press release yesterday that it ranked number one in Negros Island in the Bachelor of Science in Education Licensure Examination for Teachers conducted recently.

WVSU-ECHC garnered a 75 percent overall performance passing rate in the BSED, surpassing the 24.85 percent national passing rate, the press release added.

Results of its Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education LET recently also showed a 72.22 percent passing rate, higher than the 42.46 percent national passing performance. The BEED program ranked seventh in Negros, the press release also said.

The extension campus, headed by Evelyn Tumambo, also surpassed the 40 percent passing rate of its main school in Iloilo City, it added.*

song-writing contest on

The Negros Occidental Provincial Environment Management Office is accepting entries to its song-writing contest, as part of the 20th Provincial Environment Week celebration from June 17 to 22, a press release from the Philippine Information Agency said yesterday.

Entries must be original and no adaptation will be allowed, while the lyrics should be in Ilonggo and may be interpreted with a musical accompaniment or a capella. A participant, either a Filipino individual or group based in Negros Occidental, can field only two entries, that should not be less than three minutes and no more than five minutes in duration, the press release added.

It will be judged according to melody, 30 percent; lyrics, 60 percent; and interpretation, 10 percent. First prize winner will receive P10,000; second, P8,000; third, P5,000; and P1,000 each for three consolation prizes, the press release said.
