Bacolod SP supports
boxing commission bill

A resolution supporting House Bill 6409 of Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel Pacquiao, seeking the creation of the Philippine Boxing Commission was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.

The commission will provide and implement all necessary welfare incentives and benefits for professional boxer.

The resolution was authored by Councilor Sonya Verdeflor and co-authored by Councilor Keith Emmanuel Ramos.

It said the Philippines is known world-wide for its world-class boxing champions and as a country that continually develops many world-class boxers, many of them from families in Bacolod City and in Negros Occidental like Donnie Nietes and the Velasco brothers.

It said the main objectives of the House Bill, which focuses on professional boxing and the provision of comprehensive benefits for all boxers who have competed and won in international boxing events and who had brought honor and prestige to the country, is very laudable considering the tremendous risks to life and limb these Filipino boxers undergo, that could affect their future and that of their families.

The resolution said this measure should be given full support in order to put the Philippines among the great nations that dominate the world’s professional boxing industry.*
