146 Negrenses to take
Korean language test

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration said 146 applicants from Negros Occidental will take the 5th Employment Permit System-Korean Language Test in Cebu City on May 6.

The EPS-KLT, implemented by the Korean government on Aug. 17, 2005, is a requirement for all foreign workers entering korea under the Employment Permit System.

It is covered by a memorandum of understanding signed by the Department of Labor and Employment and Ministry of Labor of Korea on April 23, 2004. The International Korean Language Foundation is the test agency authorized by the MOL Korea for the implementation of KLT in the Philippines, and in coordination with the POEA, the IKLF administers KLT registration, testing, preparation and correction of test questionnaires.

The POEA said that formal Korean language training is not a requirement in taking the KLT, adding that applicants only need have to have sufficient knowledge of the Korean language such as those who have previously worked in Korea or did a self-study.

The Philippines' quota for Korea is 10,000 workers, 9,000 male and 1,000 female.*NLG
