The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration said 146 applicants
from Negros Occidental will take the 5th Employment Permit System-Korean
Language Test in Cebu City on May 6.
The EPS-KLT, implemented by the Korean government on Aug.
17, 2005, is a requirement for all foreign workers entering korea
under the Employment Permit System.
It is covered by a memorandum of understanding signed by the
Department of Labor and Employment and Ministry of Labor of Korea
on April 23, 2004. The International Korean Language Foundation
is the test agency authorized by the MOL Korea for the implementation
of KLT in the Philippines, and in coordination with the POEA, the
IKLF administers KLT registration, testing, preparation and correction
of test questionnaires.
The POEA said that formal Korean language training is not
a requirement in taking the KLT, adding that applicants only need
have to have sufficient knowledge of the Korean language such
as those who have previously worked in Korea or did a self-study.
The Philippines' quota for Korea is 10,000 workers, 9,000 male
and 1,000 female.*NLG
