The Reading Association of the Philippines will
hold its midyear demofest on the theme "Comprehension: Beyond the
World of Words," at Sanctuario, University of St. La Salle, in Bacolod
City, Oct. 19-20, a press release from organizers said.
RAP members, literacy experts, reading educators
and professors in Filipino and English, will share their best practices
in teaching reading. The event aims to advocate for high quality
teaching and successful reading among students. Guest speaker will
be Dr. Cheah Yin Mee, former president of the Society of Reading
and Literacy in Singapore, who will discuss "Reading Comprehension
Instruction."
Experts in reading education will also discuss
vocabulary and word recognition; content area reading and fluency;
comprehension and reading - writing connections; children's literature;
and literacy initiatives during the plenary session, the press release
said.
Supt. Mildred Garay of the Bago City Division
and RAP Negros Occidental Chapter president expects the influx of
delegates from other regions, the press release added.*
