Capitol releases P12M
for ‘Sendong’ victims

BY RENE GENOVE

The Negros Oriental Provincial Board has approved the release of the P12 million rehabilitation fund, to be sourced from financial pledges received by the provincial government from outside the province, to help the victims of tropical storm “Sendong”.

Alice Legarde of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, said that 1,200 residents, whose houses were destroyed in the December 17 floods, will each receive P5,000; while 2,500 families, whose houses were damaged, will get P2,500 each.

The financial aid will be released starting tomorrow, Legarda said.

Vice Governor Jun Arnaiz had earlier returned the proposed appropriation when the tally of the victims did not correspond to the figures submitted by the Social Welfare and Development Office.*
