for ‘Sendong’ victims

BY RENE GENOVE

The Negros Oriental Provincial Board has approved the release of the P12 million rehabilitation fund, to be sourced from financial pledges received by the provincial government from outside the province, to help the victims of tropical storm “Sendong”.

Alice Legarde of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, said that 1,200 residents, whose houses were destroyed in the December 17 floods, will each receive P5,000; while 2,500 families, whose houses were damaged, will get P2,500 each.

The financial aid will be released starting tomorrow, Legarda said.

One of the four Sangguniang Panlalawigan board members, who have been asking Gov. Ruel Degamo to release their pork barrel shares, pegged at P4 million, has agreed to meet with the governor.

BM Edmund Dy said he is ready to meet with Degamo this week to deliberate on which programs he had identified as vital, are complementary to the priorities of the governor.

The meeting was in response to Degamo’s statement that the four “complaining” board members must meet with him before he would consent to the release of their pork barrels.
