SJI booters win 8 Under title

St. John’s Institute 8-Under football team captured the championship in the Philippine Football Federation Summer Football Caravan at the Carlos Hilado Memorial College in Negros Occidental, a press release from the school said.

The young Johnians also bagged the title in the 12-Under category, with outstanding performance from Jan Michael Baloyo and striker Jonathan Talbot. The 10-Under Squad also performed well despite the absence of key players Bethany Talbot, Daneil Co and Natalie Glageva, who are playing for the Bacolod Team in the national championship.

En route to the final match against the Minuluan Team of host Talisay City, the SJI 8-Under squad encountered and tamed rivals from Manila, Iloilo, Cebu and their fellow Negrenses, the press release said.

A 6-4 shootout where SJI prevailed decided the match in favor of the Johnians. Their only defeat was in the hands of Magallon Team in their first game.

Members of the champion team are: Michael Jan Baloyo, Robbie Gumahin Tolosa, Ali, Arricivita, Pipoy Gumahin Flores, Michaela Villacin, Angelo Gustilo and Aldrich Aquino.*
