About 125 beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program will be trained in food production this month by the Technology and Livelihood Development Center of Negros Occidental, Menzi Joy Rojo, TLDC food sector in-charge, said yesterday.
The beneficiaries are from the towns of EB Magalona and Murcia and the cities of Talisay, Silay, and Victorias and the training is funded by Sen. Pia Cayetano, Rojo said.
Pie making and meat and shellfish processing will be taught to the participants. Rojo also said each local government unit will have 25 participants identified by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Region VI.
Although it is not enough to teach them the skills if they do not have capital to start their small businesses, it will still help them as they will be able to apply it when they manage to save from their income, Rojo said.
She also said the food production to be taught does not require a large capital so participants can immediately start food processing business.
Meanwhile, the TLDC posted an increase of 10 percent on the sales of food products displayed at the center with total revenues of P53,141.55 last month compared to June’s income with only P48,913.56.
The products are from the assisted small producers of TLDC.
Rojo said 10 percent of the sales or P5,314.15 goes to the province as provided in the provincial tax code, and the balanced to the food producers.
Aside from the consigned products, cash inflow will also come from rentals of the training rooms, equipment, and photocopying, she said.
Other services offered at the TLDC are food laboratory and laboratory facilities, shrink packaging and vacuum packaging.*LTG
