Drivers told to wear
appropriate ID’s

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The federation of tricycle drivers in Dumaguete City is supporting the move of the city council requiring them to wear appropriate identification cards while plying their trade in the city.

Glendo Selem, president of the Federation of Dumaguete City Operators and Drivers Association, said this a move in the right direction not only for the safety of passengers but also to ferret out illegitimate drivers.

Selem even proposed that only residents of Dumaguete be allowed to operate and drive tricycles in the city.

An amendment to an ordinance that was passed and approved in 2010 yet, is up on first reading, particularly sections 1 and 7.

Section 7 provides that any MCH unit driven by a person without the prescribed ID shall be impounded, after due process, at the city hall compound or any other assigned area, and shall be released only after payment of a fine in the amount of P500.00.

Under Ordinance 212, the city government may opt to settle a compromise fee of P100 per violation.

Any misrepresentation or use of the ID by its non-owner shall be meted a fine of P3,000 and in case of non-payment, the MCH permit of the operator shall not be renewed, until the fine is fully paid or satisfied.*JG
