Januario John Rivas of the Philippine Consulate to Australia called on Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday, to discuss preparations for a Trade and Tourism Expo to be held in Negros Occidental in March, a press release from Capitol said.
The expo is expected to bring tour operators from Australia to the Philippines and serve as an avenue for the hiring of Negrense skilled workers and the promotion of study-migrate, and tourism and retirement programs, the press release said.
Rivas said Australia is outsourcing about 4.8 Million skilled workforce from various countries, including the Philippines.
Marañon expressed interest in the study-migrate program of Australia, and plans to provide scholarship programs to interested Negrense graduates provided they pass the qualification standards, the press release said.
He has assigned the Negros Occidental Language and Information Center to coordinate with the Office of the Consul for the upcoming event, the press release said.
Rivas, who is from Kabankalan City, was accompanied by his wife, Edna, who attended the recent Kabankalanons Reunion, the press release added.*
