Gunman in slay nabbed

The alleged gunman in the recent killing of a contractual worker of the Victorias Milling Co. in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, was arrested Monday by the police, two days after the commission of the crime.

Supt. Alexander Muñoz, Victorias police chief, yesterday said the suspect whom he identified as Arnel Dublan,21, was arrested at the VMC compound, where he was working, based on the positive identification of five witnesses, including a victim who survived the shooting incident on Jan. 14.

Dublan, who was armed with a .45 caliber pistol, allegedly shot dead Warren Jamora,35, in Brgy. 13, Victorias City, investigation of the Victorias police showed. A stray bullet also hit Susan Dianela,51, in the right arm.

Munoz said Dublan also tested positive for gunpowder burns on his left hand, after he was subjected to a paraffin test at the PNP Crime Laboratory.

Jamora and Dianela were riding on a passenger tricycle, when the shooting incident took place Saturday at Brgy. 13 in Victorias.

Two spent shells of a .45 caliber pistol were recovered from the crime scene.

Muñoz said the shooting may have been triggered by an old grudge, as the victim and suspect were working in the same company.

Murder and frustrated murder charges are now being readied by the Victorias police against Dublan, who has claimed innocence of the shooting incident.*GPB
