Kirell Brahndon Montalbo sizzled with a tournament high 51 points to lead Johann Kendrick over Orix Metro, 88-71, while Atlantic Auto Parts defeated MRT Gentech Corp., 90-77, to tie their victim at second spot, Wednesday night of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. 2nd Conference Intercolor Basketball Tournament at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
Two days later, Joshbianc Motors remained as the only unbeaten team holding off Campuestohan Highland Resort, 108-105, and Guanzon Dental Clinic notched its first win surprising Fyr Fyter Mktg., 123-116.
In the JK vs. Orix game, Montalbo, who scored a total of 100 points in their last two games, also scored 23 points in the opening quarter to lead JK to a 28-15 lead. Robbie Jalando-on delivered 13 points to lead an Orix comeback and tie the score, 40-all at halftime.
JK pulled away in the second half as the lead ballooned to more than 20 points in the fourth quarter behind Montalbo’s 28 second half pts.
Backstopping Montalbo was Ritchie Militante with 13 points, while Jalando-on finished with 18 points for Orix.
Meanwhile, Guanzon played with only six players but performed impressively to beat the Fyr Fyter.
Also delivering a good game was the father and son tandem of Richard and Joshua Co, who went six of six from the free throw line in the final minutes of the game to close out a pesky Campuestohan team.
Campuestohan engaged the undefeated Joshbianc in several lead changes from the start until the fourth and still was in the driver's seat at 100-97. But a strong finish by Joshbianc foiled Campuestohan’s threat to nail its fourth victory in as many start.
Arnol Laureño and Joshua Co finished with 25 points apiece for Joshbianc while Yan Yan Dy had a game-high 29 points for Campueshohan.*NAB
