2012 WVRAA
Meet opens today

The 2012 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet opens this afternoon, 3:30 p.m. at the Panaad Park and Stadium with host Negros Occidental committing to make the weeklong competition one of the biggest events in the province this year.

Overall chairman and Department of Eduation Regional Director for Western Visayas Mildred Garay said this year’s regional meet is a prelude to Negros Occidental’s bid to host the 2013 Palarong Pambansa.

With the rules in selecting the host province for the annual national games changing and getting more strict especially on the facilities, Garay said Negros Occidental has to “perfect” its hosting task in this year’s WVRAA to showcase its capability and enhance its chances of winning the bid.

USLS-IS keeps title in
SGVL reg’l finals

Defending champion University of St. La Salle-Integrated School needed five sets to tame the hard fighting team from Central Philippine University to keep its regional title of the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League at the USLS College Covered Court yesterday.

With service errors hounding them, the La Salle girls dropped the first set, 24-26, but managed to bounce back in the second set, 25-17.

CPU took an early lead in the third set as with well-placed spikes from the tandem Helene Guia Celiz and Nestlie Gonzales, but USLS caught up with them and wrest the lead at 12-14 with Bernadeth Pons serving.
