hired on the spot, DOLE says

One hundred-eight applicants were hired on the spot at the Labor Day job fair of the Department of Labor and Employment Negros with the Public Employment Service Office-Bacolod yesterday at the SM-Bacolod, Event Center.

DOLE provincial director Ma. Victoria Mondragon, said their goal is to have applicants hired on the spot and compared to last year, the HOTS recorded yesterday were doubled.

Mondragon said the job fair will not only end with the registration of jobseekers but towards their hiring by the participant firms since there are 7,000 available jobs that needs to be filled.

She said that for local vacancies, the most number of jobs come from call center companies, manufacturing firms, fast food chains, marketing staff and office works. In demand overseas jobs, on the other hand, are engineers, welders, domestic helpers, and skilled workers.

A total of 57 local companies and six overseas recruitment agencies joined the fair, Mondragon added.

Meanwhile, SM public relations officer May Castro, said the mall opened at 9 a.m. and accommodated more than 4,000 pre-registered and walk-in applicants yesterday.

Castro said SM has been a DOLE partner in their job fair activities in the past years.

She also said the job fair does not hinder the convenience of the mall goes as they only occupy the Event Center.

The job fair was held in partnership with SM and ABS-CB Bacolod.*LTG
