LOPPTA paddlers
shine in 2012 Palaro

Players from Bacolod City who are members of LOPTTA representing Western Visayas, captured nine titles in table tennis in the 2012 Palarong Pambansa in Pangasinan.

The team won four golds, 3 silvers and 2 bronzes in the tightly contested event featuring top players from all over the country.

The LOPTTA members captured the gold in the secondary Girl’s team event, secondary girls’ singles, secondary boys’ singles and elementary boys’ singles. First runner-up honors came from secondary boys’ team, elementary girls’ team and secondary girls’ singles while the two bronzes from elementary girls’ singles.

The secondary girls champion team, mentored by Dexter Delenila, was composed of Emy Rose Dael, Rose Jean Fadol, Shamiela Pineda and Beverly Paulma. They beat defending champion National Capital Region (3-1) in the final (3-1).

In the secondary girls’ singles event, it was an all-Region VI match-up in the final as Rose Jean Fadol and Emy Rose Dael clashed against each other after they beat Lyr Leyva and Jamaica Sy of NCR in the semifinals. Dael prevailed over Fadol in a decider, (4-3).

John Paul Gubaton made an impressive performance as he defeated defending champion Dannel Jay Tormis of Region VII in the championship match (4-3) to take home the crown in the secondary boys’ singles event, while John Michael Castro disposes John Marie Nayre of Region VIII in the final (4-2) to capture the elementary boys’ singles title.

The secondary boys’ team composed of John Paul Gubaton, Edmund Garganian Jr., Rhomar Dasilao and Marc Penaranda and the elementary girls’ team of Angel Borbon, Mariella Mabaquiao, Edria Garganian and Elyssa Toleco also brought took home the silver medal as both teams fell short in the final against Region VII and Region 10, respectively.

Borbon and Mabaquiao also gave Western Visayas two bronze medals in the elementary girls’ singles category.*NAB
