NOPPO ready for twin holiday

The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office is ready to provide security to the public during the All Saints Day and All Souls Day commemoration on Nov. 1 and 2, NOPPO director, Senior Supt. Edward Carranza, said.

Police chiefs have been asked to put up assistance desks at the cemeteries in their areas of assignment, while traffic management groups have been requested to provide augmentation to maintain a smooth flow of traffic.

Police visibility, to include foot and mobile patrols, will be enhanced while the Quick Response Teams area will be on hand for quick deployment in time of trouble.

NORSU gets P29M
for dev’t projects

The Negros Oriental State University received close to P30 million from various stakeholders for its development projects, a government press release said.

NORSU president Don Vicente Real reported during the general faculty and staff meeting Saturday at the NORSU Cultural Center that he considered this a major achievement in his first 100 days as president, the press release said.

The Commission on Higher Education gave P8 million for business process outsourcing, and P7 million for the Training Center for Industrial Electronics of the College of Industrial Technology of the university, Real said in the press release.

Additional 60,000
cops to be hired

MANILA –The planned recruitment of additional 60,000 policemen within three years by the Department of Interior and Local Government will allow the Philippine National Police to deploy at least one cop in each of the country’s 42,000 barangays.

On Saturday, PNP Director-General Nicanor Bartolome welcomed the medium-term plans by the DILG to muster 60,000 more police personnel to provide better services to the communities.

Speaking before the national convention of the Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines in Cebu City, Bartolome echoed the pronouncements made by DILG Secretary Manuel Roxas II indicating moves to hike the PNP strength by as much as 60,000 personnel within the next three years.
