USLS men’s volley team wins
UniGames crown after 14 years

The University of St. La Salle men’s volleyball team clawed their way out of a 2-0 hole and won the next three sets in an epic final match to dethrone Far Eastern University and win their second title in the University Games after 14 years. The score: 19-25; 20-25; 25-16; 25-17, and 23-21.

The Stingers advanced to the championship round after beating University of Sto. Tomas in three sets in the semifinals, 25-22, 25-16, 25-19, while the Tamaraws bounced back from a first set loss to tame Adamson in four sets, 13-25, 25-18, 25-22, and 25-19, to book another trip to the finals.

Before a packed crowd at the USLS College Covered Court, the USLS men’s team refused to give up and valiantly stood their ground despite falling behind 2-0.

NU bags basketball title
as UE forfeits final game

The National University Bulldogs captured the men’s basketball title as University of the East Red Warriors forfeited their championship game in the final day of the 17th Sandugo University Games at the St. La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City yesterday.

Team officials of UE said they have to leave Bacolod on the final day of the competition as their flight to Taiwan had been booked earlier, even before the start of the UniGames.

The forfeiture prompted officials to declare the Bulldogs as this year’s champion, while dethroned Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, who beat Adamson University in the battle for third place was given the silver medal and the Falcons, the bronze.

FEU, College of St. Benilde
lead championship winners

Far Eatern University and De La Salle-College of St. Benilde captured four team gold medals each to lead the winners in the 17th Sandugo University Games that ended yesterday at the University of St. La Salle.

The FEU Tamaraws retained the overall championship in both men and women’s athletics, and reigned in men’s football and women’s basketball.

The Tams finished with a silver in women’s volleyball and bronze in men’s chess..
