Arty trophies await
winners of MassKara

The 2012 MassKara trophies that will be given to winners of the streetdance, Electric MassKara performing floats, DanssKara, Cosplay on the Glow, and photo contest competitions on Oct. 22, showcase the rich artistic and cultural heritage of Bacolod that bolster the city’s claim to be the “Art Capital of Southern Philippines”.

Festival director Eli Tajanlangit said eight Bacolod artists, who also created the 2012 MassKara logo, were commissioned to paint on five trophies each. The result are 40 trophies with colorful, playful, and creative designs that depict sea and mountain creatures, and masks, he added in a press release.

Artists Emilio Montelibano, Susanito Sarnate, Claudine Joyce Ballesteros, Jay-R Delleva, Guenievere Decena, Hilario Campos III, Roderick Tijing and Peter James Fantinalgo focused their works on the theme anchored on this year’s Majica MassKara, that highlights the geographical gift of Bacolod as a city where the mountains and the seas meet, the press release also said.

A Bacolod visual artist is commissioned to capture the year’s creative impulses in the festival logo and trophy, in keeping with a tradition that was started in 2005. Last year’s trophy designer was Bamboo Tonogbanua, and previous designers of the MassKara trophies were Charlie Co, Barry Cervantes, Dennis Ascalon, Raymond Legaspi and Jose Carreon Jr., the press release added.*
