A memorable visit
It was a heartwarming welcome for Rep. Jack Enrile (Cagayan, 1st District), son of highly-admired and respected Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Saturday in Bacolod City.
The congressman met with the pillars and prime movers of the Philippine sugar industry, headed by National Sugar Federation president Nene Rojas, Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., solons, mayors, sanggunian members, media representatives and civic organization leaders.
Enrile shared his vision in making our agriculture industry more competitive, through his National Food Requirement Plan, that he hopes his House bill will be supported by Congress.
He revealed that the Philippines was one of the very first countries to sign the globalization agreement years ago, thus opening the floodgate for trade and products from other nations. Enrile said there is a need to implement more safeguards to protect our agricultural industry from international competition when it eventually comes into effect.
Also seen in the gathering were the officers of the Occidental Negros Host Lions Club, headed by past president Betty Ditching, and district governor Faustino Yuson and his wife Joy, and the Bacolod City “Host” Lions Club, led by Nana Jalbuena.
Since all our leaders are one in envisioning a better Negros Occidental, let us cooperate even in our own way, to achieve a promising future for our province.*
