BY MARICAR ARANAS

The media is now facing a critical time in the nation's history, ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs head Maria Ressa said at the 3 rd Pinoy Media Congress held Thursday and Friday at the Luce Auditorium, Silliman University , Dumaguete City .

Based on their survey, she said 98 percent of the Filipino people consider the fourth estate as a partner that can help solve their problems, and listen to their concerns and frustrations.

The congress was presented by ABS-CBN in cooperation with the Philippine Association of Communication Educator's Foundation and Silliman University.

It aimed to come up with honest evaluation and discuss concerns in the media industry with the academic community through a dialog.

Silliman President Dr . Ben Malayang said he is honored that the university was chosen as event venue. It has reminded the community of the importance of the media industry in the society today, he said.

He said the media also brings the concerns of society to the discussion table of the government, and helps trace the direction of progress and development of the nation.*MA
