for livelihood projects
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The Department of Agriculture in Central Visayas released P2.7 million Tuesday for five livelihood projects in various rural-based organizations in Siquijor province.

The projects are under the Phase 2 program of Livelihood Enhancement for Agriculture Development implemented through the National Agricultural and Fishery Council.

Agriculture and Fishery Council Regional Chairman, Efren dela Cruz turned over the check to recipients groups, at rites witnessed by Siquijor Vice Gov. Jesus Cortes and other provincial officials.

The organizations are the Solangon and Tubod San Juan Rural Improvement Clubs, Licoan RIC, Catulayan Livestock Raisers Association and the Goat Raisers Association of Siquijor Province.

De la Cruz said the financial assistance is solely for rural based organizations and farmers cooperatives, and is payable in two years. The project is aimed at achieving food security and poverty alleviation, in partnership with local government units and stakeholders, he added.

LEAD was also designed to provide capability building and market support programs for indigent farmers and fishermen.*MA
