Eight entries share
P8M purse in derby

Eight entries scored seven victories each to split the grand prize of the P8 Million GFBAN 8-Stag Masskara Derby that ended Nov. 16 at the Negros Coliseum Cockpit in Bacolod City .

Sharing the limelight in the week-long event were Brandon Ace Rapapap and Sabong Sports Rapapap of Raffy Yulo; Johnny Laureño's JVL Alegria; AKL Power Ranger Pasay Cockpit, of Guillermo V. Hanaya Sr./Manolito; MTV Ultra Violet Rays, of Chito Tinsay and Jody Montilla; Mario Golingan/Wilson Ong combined' Goldvives; Nestor Espinel/TLC's NorthPoint, and D'Company GR, of Benson Chiang and Nanie Guillaran combined.

Araneta withdraws PFF bid

Mariano Araneta has withdrawn his candidacy for Philippine Football Federation, citing family reasons, PFF president Johnny Romualdez said yesterday.

Romualdez said as far as he knows, three candidates remain in the fight for the top football post, although he has heard reports that former Rep. Carlos Cojuangco has also pulled out of the elections set Saturday in Manila.

The DAILY STAR has sought the comment of the Cojuangco camp yesterday but had yet to receive a response as of press deadline.

Patrimonio in Bacolod to
promote PBA game

Alvin Patrimonio, a four-time Most Valuable Player in the Philippine Basketball Association, will be in Bacolod City today to drum up interest for the PBA road game between the Purefoods Giants and the Air 21 Express next month.

The 6-foot-3 Patrimonio, dubbed “the Captain” during his heydays, is scheduled to appear in a 10:30 a.m. press conference at West Negros College , which will also host the PBA game on Dec. 15 at the WNC Gym.

Joining Patrimonio, who serves as Purefoods manager, at the press conference is Emmanuel Yap, the uncle of Purefoods star and 2006 PBA MVP James Yap.
